7th Biennial Auto Collectors Club Rally Comes to the City

October 20th – 22nd will see Murray Bridge come alive with the influx of classic vehicles for the staging of the Auto collectors Club of Murray Bridge (ACCMB) 7th Biennial Twin Bridges Rally (TBR)

It has become widely renowned for its attendance and professionalism in staging such an event over the past years.

The three day event is expected to attract entrants from Interstate and many parts of South Australia, including the Murraylands.

On behalf of the TBR Coordinating Registration committee, Mr.& Mrs. Roy Bretag said “that already 100 people have registered to attend the weekend along with their 50 vehicles.

Pre – registered participants will be able to register their attendance from 3-30pm on Friday 20th October at the ACCMB Clubrooms, Johnstone Park Community Centre to collect their Rally Packs and enjoy their welcome dinner from 6-00pm.

Saturday 21st at 8-00am, all 50 pre-registered vehicles will assemble at the Murray Bridge Wharf Car Park for judging of “Dignitary Choice” by Rural City of Murray Bridge Mayor, Mr. Brenton Lewis.

Pre – registered participating ladies will judge what they see in their eyes, to be, Ladies choice of the “Best Vehicle” on show.

These vehicles will be on display for the public from 8-00am – 9-15am.

Vehicles will move away from the Wharf car park and travel to the Tailem Bend Football Oval complex for morning tea, and again vehicles will be on display from approx 9-30am – 11-00am for the residents of Tailem Bend and District to view.

From Tailem Bend, vehicles will travel direct to Meningie in 5 convoys, where vehicles will again be lined up in their categories, to complete the judging by members of the Coorong Mechanical Restoration Club.

There will be a theme for the day which will be, “Dress for the Year of your Vehicle’s Era”.

Midday lunch will be held at the Meningie Museum Restaurant, followed by a visit to the Meningie Museum.

Meningie and District residents are more than welcome to come and view these meticulously prepared vehicles in the reserve area of the Museum facing magnificent Lake Albert from 12-30pm – 2-00pm.

Vehicles will return to Murray Bridge mid – afternoon for the evening’s celebrations.

Sunday 22nd will commence with morning tea at the ACCMB clubrooms, followed by excursions to local attractions before lunch and then the weekend trophy winner’s presentations.

Vehicles will again be on public display from 12-30pm – 2-30pm at the ACCMB Clubrooms, Johnstone Park.

** A BRIEF precis of the TBR weekend is as follows**

FRIDAY 20th October

Registration Centre– Johnstone Park Clubrooms open from 3-30pm for Registration and the collection of TBR bags, badges etc, with a complementary afternoon tea.

Dinner 6-00pm at the clubrooms, BYO drinks (soft drinks on sale) followed by evening entertainment.

Drawing of the MINOR Raffle prizes.

SATURDAY 21st October.

Assemble at Wharf Car Park 8-00am SHARP for some judging prior to departing for Tailem Bend Football Club where morning tea will be served.

Following morning tea, depart for the Meningie Cheese Factory Restaurant for the main meal of the day, followed by a visit to the Cheese Factory Museum.

The Theme for the day will be “Dress for the Era of your Vehicle”. Prizes will be awarded for the “Best Dressed Male/Female” associated with their Vehicle.

This will be judged when you first arrive at Meningie before lunch.

Further judging of vehicles will take place at Meningie .

Theme winners for Best Dressed will be announced at Saturday night’s dinner.

SATURDAY Evening 6-00 for 6-30pm

For a meal with a difference at the ACCMB Clubrooms at Johnstone Park.

Evening program and meal will be casual – “Pizza, Pav & BYO Plonk(soft drinks on sale) followed by evening entertainment with the drawing of the MAJOR raffle prizes.

SUNDAY 22nd October

Morning Tea at Clubrooms. 9-00am. 

10-00am. Visit to the Murray Bridge Historical Society Railway Heritage walk (only for the first 50 registrations indicating their intentions). This walk will be approx 1 hour duration.

Remainder to visit the Historic Round House overlooking the Twin Bridges across the ‘Mighty Murray’ 

Midday Lunch 12-30pm at ACCMB Clubrooms, to be followed by the presentation of the weekend trophies for best vehicles and the Saturday Quiz winners.

Close approx 2-00 – 2-30pm.

VOLUNTEERS are still needed for Meal preparation on Friday, Saturday nights and Sunday lunch.

SETTING UP & CLEANING UP volunteers still needed.

If you are not attending the TBR, maybe you would like to give some time to your club and help on the above days.
