Patron’s Run 2019
We left the clubrooms at 9:00 a.m. sharp with 21 cars travelling down the Old Adelaide Road to Callington to meet up with the Wegener’s. I apologize for not explaining this route to the people who travelled via the freeway, but we all ended up at the same spot at Ben’s car yard in Strathalbyn.
Ben certainly turns over a few cars, because I did not see a car there that I’d seen last year, apart from his own Allan Moffat Racing Mazda RX7, which is not for sale. Our Host Luke Meyer (Ben’s right hand man) gave a very good presentation of how the collectable car sales business runs, and as he claims, he is a mechanic not a car salesman. The next time I speak to Ben, I shall recommend he promote Luke to Head Salesman and double his wages.
While at Ben’s, Graham Sinpson called in to say g’day, and invited us around to have a look at the soon to be open (early December) old cars and racing Memorabilia in the old showrooms and workshop area in High Street, once the home of Gilbert Motors Ltd, now leased to the Strathalbyn Tourism Association, for this great project, run by volunteers. So put this on your, to see list when next in Strathalbyn.
We then travelled on to the Milang Hotel, where Jacki our Hostess was waiting with a good variety of meals and drinks for us. Thank you to Terry and June for being tail end Charlie, with no incidence to report. I thank all of you who attended this run and hope you enjoyed is as much as I did.
