Pub Run 27/7/2025

Now we are not going to complain about the recent rain, we certainly needed it. More please. But it was not raining when we arrived at the Railway Station car park for our planned departure for this run. Very cold and windy, but not raining. Most of us took shelter behind the Kriel’s Unimog, a suitable vehicle to break the wind. After the usual pleasantries and drivers briefing we returned to 13 nice warm vehicles and set sail for Tanunda. I was particularly pleased, as the heater in the Fairmont was working a treat, something that it did not do last year on the “pub run” when its performance (or lack of it) was sorely missed.

Through Palmer, Tungkillo, Birdwood, Williamstown and Lyndoch, very little rain today but a good opportunity to appreciate a nice green countryside, not very long grass as yet, but a marked improvement on what we had seen recently through this area. The dining room in “The Clubhouse” at Tanunda welcomed us and I was reminded why we do this in the middle of winter, warm, dry and inviting. Established in 1891 as The Tanunda Club Incorporated “The Clubhouse” is a licensed not-for-profit community club welcoming members and visitors alike. The main dining area was pretty well full, which surprised me considering the poor weather outside, but we had been allocated a room off to the side which was ideal for us. The service was excellent and friendly and very quick considering the number of people they were catering for. The food great as well. No one seemed in any great hurry to leave, many opting for desert and coffee but of course we had to eventually tear ourselves away to return home.

Hope you all had an enjoyable day.
