Ladies Day Run 2021
The weather was overcast when we left the Clubrooms for the drive to Callington. We were greeted by Bob & Cheryl who own Elephants Rest. Morning tea was forgotten for a while as everyone browsed the Lifesize statues of African animals & listened to Bob & Cheryl. We proceeded inside to see all the artifacts they have collected on their trips.
We were then given a detailed talk on what they do with the Elephant Rehabilitation Shelter. Many questions were asked about their various & interesting trips driving around Africa, camping in the wild & staying with Masai villagers whenever they go to Africa. (They have sponsored & paid for many young Africans to go to school & on to Uni.)
We then had morning tea of scones, jam & cream & the most delicious Hummingbird cake (pineapple & banana) all made by Bob, along with various types of coffee & tea.
With no pitstop needed, we drove to Mannum Community Club for lunch. Lunch was ordered, then the chatting began in earnest. After lunch the answers to the quiz were read out with much hilarity & discussions about the answers. Most seemed reluctant to leave & the chatting went on until someone broke the ice & said goodbye.
I think everyone enjoyed the different run & Bob & Cheryl may have gained some new customers for their very interesting business. (All money raised by them goes to the Elephant Rehab. Shelter.)
Thanks to those members who made it a very enjoyable day.
