Loxton Run 30/3/2024
Loxton Historical Village Alive Day Run
Easter Saturday March 30th, 2024
It was a beautiful, clear autumn morning when ten members in five cars left the clubrooms at 8 am to travel to Loxton. Another two members/one car joined the travellers on East side and then we were off to Karoonda for a short comfort stop and some took advantage of a snack from the deli.
A further short stop at Alawoona for a cuppa and a bite to eat before we all headed off to Loxton and a cruise along the river front before arriving at the Village at just after 10.30 am. Here we were joined by four more members who were staying in the Riverland for Easter.
Arriving at the Village we were given priority parking in or near the shady straw roofed shed which was very welcome as it had started to warm up a bit by then.
We all then went our separate ways to have a look around and there was plenty to see.
Operating stationary engines, whip cracking demonstrations, local art, and craft stalls, shearing demonstrations, horse and wagon rides and a carillon bell display were some of the attractions. In addition, there were the static building displays like the General Store, The Bank of Adelaide, The Nissen Hut, The Railway Station, The School, Doecke’s Cottage as well as a variety of farm machinery and implements.
At 12 noon it was time for a rest and a bite to eat. After purchasing our lunch of choice, German sausages, freshly baked goods from the Village Bakery or a “pie floater” from the Village Pie Cart we met in the cool of the Institute building where we enjoyed some time together.
During the afternoon it became rather hot and many of us enjoyed any shady area we could find to view the happenings around us.
The day finished at approximately 2.15pm with a Grand Parade of the Village vintage tractors, trucks, and fire engines, which two members from ACCMB were happy to participate in, each driving a vintage tractor.
Thank you to those members who came along, we hope you enjoyed it.
